Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
